Dress Dreams - What’s Trending

Today’s brides have a wonderful and wide variety of silhouettes and styles in wedding gowns to choose from – whether they want the classic princess gown or a more delicate vintage style.
Trends are constantly changing and two of the current trends focus on portrait backs and sheer overlays.

Since the back of the wedding dress is featured quite prominently during the ceremony, many designers have added embellishments and gorgeous lace panels that highlight the back of the gown. In this segment for NBC’s Today show, Keija Minor of Brides magazine shows off four wedding gowns featuring show-stopping backs.

Here are a few of our favorites…. For more examples, check out the post, Top Ten: Portrait Backs from the 2013 Wedding Runway, from Love Notes.

This gown, Promise by Claire Pettibone, is a sweet floral design.

The detail on the back of this gown, Mystere by Claire Pettibone, is gorgeous!

Another hot trend is the sheer overlay, allowing brides to add romantic flair to a simple silhouette by layering billowing tulle over the simpler sheaths underneath. This post by The Bride’s Guide at Martha Stewart’s Weddings gives some examples of this beautiful style.
